Elian Script

Convert text to Elian Script - a modern cipher alphabet based on a 3x3 grid pattern.

Elian Script Grid

Letters are arranged in a 3×3 grid, repeated three times with different dot markers.

No dots (A-I)

A
B
C
D
E
F
G
H
I

One dot (J-R)

J
K
L
M
N
O
P
Q
R

Two dots (S-Z)

S
T
U
V
W
X
Y
Z

How to Draw Elian Script

  • • Draw only the lines that border the letter's position in the grid
  • • Corner letters (A, C, G, I): two perpendicular lines
  • • Edge letters (B, D, F, H): single line (top, left, right, bottom)
  • • Center letter (E, N, W): no lines, just dot pattern
  • • Add dots based on which third: 0 dots (A-I), 1 dot (J-R), 2 dots (S-Z)

Puzzle Tips

  • • Popular in online puzzles and ARGs
  • • Look for geometric shapes with dot patterns
  • • Each symbol has at most two perpendicular lines
  • • Created by CC Elian in 2011 as a "constructed alphabet"

What is Elian Script?

Elian Script is a modern constructed alphabet created by CC Elian in 2011. It encodes letters using geometric shapes derived from their position in a 3×3 grid, with dots indicating which of three grids the letter belongs to.

How It Works

The Grid System

The 26 letters are arranged in three 3×3 grids:

  • Grid 1 (A-I): No dots
  • Grid 2 (J-R): One dot
  • Grid 3 (S-Z): Two dots (with Z filling the 8th position)

Drawing the Shapes

Each letter is drawn by tracing only the lines that form the border of its cell:

  • Corners (A, C, G, I positions): Two lines forming an L or angle
  • Edges (B, D, F, H positions): Single straight line
  • Center (E position): No lines, just the dot indicator

Examples

  • A: Top-left corner = ⌐ shape
  • E: Center = empty/box shape
  • I: Bottom-right corner = ┘ shape
  • K: Same as B but with one dot
  • T: Same as B but with two dots

Elian Script in Puzzles

Elian Script appears in modern puzzles because:

  • Visual appeal: The geometric shapes are elegant and artistic
  • Modern cipher: Popular in ARGs and online mystery hunts
  • Easy to write: Can be drawn quickly once learned
  • Distinctive look: Recognizable pattern of angles and dots

vs Pigpen Cipher

Both use grid-based shapes, but:

  • Pigpen uses the entire cell boundary; Elian uses only the borders
  • Elian symbols are simpler with fewer lines
  • Elian uses dots consistently (0, 1, or 2); Pigpen uses dots differently
